BBC: '£10 licence to smoke' proposed

Smokers could be forced to pay £10 for a permit to buy tobacco if a government health advisory body gets its way.

This one will never happen. I assume even the most ardent anti-smoking whiners will agree that this is just a tad over-the-top.

Mind you, they are a notoriously intolerant bunch.

I've warned you many times, fellow drinkers: we're next.

For once, I have to agree that the smoking ban is inconvenient. Last night, I left the pub (in the middle of a quiet residential area) at 1120pm. Stood outside on the pavement were about 20 smokers, all in mid (loud) conversation. The inconvenienceĀ to the local residents (either awake or otherwise) must have been enormous. Many pubs have a notice reading 'please consider local residents when leaving'. This obviously, cut no ice here. Another point to the inconsiderate members of our community, slowly committing suicide in the name of freedom.

Nite Owl

an interesting addition...

Yesterday, I accompanied PC Plod & his hyperactive hound around the hospital, on his regular drug search. When Fido was let into the smoking lounge, his mood changed & he made a hasty exit. He then laid on the floor in a gesture of submission. Dispite attempts by his handler, he would not go back in.

THE MORAL OF THIS TALE IS...IF YOU'RE GOING TO HIDE YOUR STASH, HIDE IT IN A SMOKY ROOM!
